I really wanted to love this jacket because I love the turquoise blue color it matches my winter gloves but it’s so thin it’s only good for a 60° day. Also it leaks feathers like you wouldn’t believe! The minute I took it out of the package there was feathers all over the place!! It reminded me of my old REI Outlet down jacket. Feathers everywhere!! Feathers in my car, feathers on my clothes, feathers flying all around even in my hair, it was a nightmare!! This jacket is so thin the feathers stick out and poke you. After wearing it for only 5 minutes I could feel all kinds of feathers poking me in the back not fun. Plus it’s not water resistant and the material it’s so shiny everything sticks to it, including the feathers that stick out of it LOL! ? It creates so much static that when you take it off you get shocked a dozen times. Super annoying!Plus the cuffs on this jacket are ginormous, you could fit a badger inside!! Why would you want a cuff that large and loose?! All the cold air comes in. I bought 2 sizes a large and a medium, the cuffs were the same size on both jackets but the medium was so snug and tight in front I wouldn’t be able to layer up underneath. Also the arm length is crazy LONG even on the medium, so long it almost covers my fingers, really annoying. I thought they would be shorter on the medium but they’re not. I bought a Columbia Heavenly jacket too and it’s way better because it’s insulated with polyester not feathers so it keeps me a lot warmer. It’s not as cute as the Outdoor Research Sonata jacket but it has 4.8 stars not 3.9. Oh well, save yourself $225 and by a Columbia jacket, you won’t be disappointed. They’re $105 less too.I gave this jacket 2 stars because I really like the blue turquoise color on the inside of the jacket (outside is black). The embroidered logos on the front left side and right sleeve are turquoise blue too. I like it when a jacket uses embroidered logos not stick on ones that peel off after a few months. Also the zippers are really good. Nice thick plastic ones that zip up and down easily and they’re quiet too, not loud and annoying thin zippers that most jackets have. They look durable even though somebody else posted that they break after one year. Oh well, I can’t even wear this jacket for one day let alone one year. ?I am loving the lightweight warm comfort of my OR Sonata Hoody on cold autumn days in Melbourne. Early days so cannot report on its ability to withstand wear and tear, or warmth in really cold conditions. I like the soft lining of the hand pockets and their depth. Having a zip closure pocket is good. The hood fits well and does not obscure my vision. I bought a small which is a touch narrow at the hips when zipped (so sits a little higher) but otherwise fits very well and the arm length is perfect. A couple of feathers are poking out, made the mistake of pulling one out which brought another to the surface - I think better to just let it work slowly out on its own. I am not experiencing the significant shedding a couple of others have described. So far very happy with this purchase.Ordered this jacket intending to layer it with an OR shell for ski touring in British Columbia Canada. I feel like there is no down in the shoulders which is very cold. I will contact OR directly to see if I can make an exchange for something more appropriate. I was looking forward to a very packable layer light weight warm layer but it failed. Nice color, fits a little large. I purchased an XS and feels more like a S.UPDATE: I contacted OR directly, they were impressively willing to work with me to guarantee my satisfaction of the jacket. I finally decided to keep the item. Glad I did. I use this in active situations where it actually expels the excess heat perfectly. I layer it up with all technical layers and it works well. I am not warm enough just wearing it in the city however. I had a few feathers make their way out but it has not been an issue for me.Took this on a three-day hiking trip in the White Mountains to wear on the summits or when resting. I mostly had it stuffed into my day pack and had to take it out and stuff it back in several times a day. As I think some other reviewers noted, it does start to shed feathers but this was a minor inconvenience for me. Then I wore it around Portland for a few days and it looked great and was very comfortable, even over a base layer and light fleece. I did find some shed feathers sticking to black clothing after wearing it. I'm pretty sure the feathers come out a lot more when the jacket is stuffed and crushed and probably wouldn't otherwise do this.I like the Black/Rio color as you can't see the feathers through the fabric as you might on a lighter color. The jacket is incredibly thin and lightweight yet provides a lot of warmth. This is a lovely light, simple puffer jacket. I have moved from California to Washington DC, in recent weeks so will not have my full opinion until a cold DC winter tests this jacket out!Until then, fit is great. It feels extremely light and comfortable, and the slightly longer back/tail feel like it will not ride up and expose a cold back.I'm really happy so far.Once again, a product that is too small to fit around the waist. Not everyone wants tight form fitting. It is an INCREDIBLE jacket, if they made it looser at the waist it would be the ideal coat. Instead I went with Marmot that actually fits without having to fight the zipper for closure if you have any amount of layers on. The "fit trim" sizing is turning a lot of people off from being able to use these great, technical jackets. Not a fan of tight clothing.Beautiful coat. I purchased in the blue, however not warm at all. I'm in NYC and tested it during the coldest FEB in NY 22 degrees and I felt every bit of wind thought this jacket. A little snug in the hip area. 5'5 135 lbs and ordered a med.a large would prob fit hip area better, but then would be huge in the arm and chest area. Overall, prob best as a layer under a shell, not as a coat.
